Opera in 3 Acts, set to English text by William Shakespeare.
“And what love can do, that dares love attempt.”
Will the greatest settings of this story forever be French and Italian? While “West Side Story” certainly has its place, I have always yearned to hear this timeless piece set in its own language, English. So I made a Libretto with 100% of Shakespeare’s original text, simply choosing the most poignant material from it to compose. I grew up going to so many productions at the Landsburgh and Folger theaters in DC – I know its power, have wept and laughed at its genius, coming back again and again to see it transformed from one live performance to another. I want others to have their own version of that same experience. There are sounds in this text I yearn to hear, cadences which no one has yet written.
In addition to a dedication, whoever helps make this dream possible will receive an autograph manuscript, signed first edition of the score, and bonus recording material that will be theirs to publish or keep indefinitely. You will be a part of the process from conception to completion, and a shared owner in something priceless.
